Padre Cristoforo è venuto a conoscenza delle minacce di don Rodrigo e dopo
aver valutato varie ipotesi decide di affrontarlo nel suo stesso castello.
Accolto durante un banchetto riesce alla fine ad avere un colloquio in privato
con il signorotto, che inizia in maniera apparentemente amichevole e
diplomatica da entrambe le parti, ma che ben presto prende un tono aspro.
“- In che posso ubbidirla? – disse don Rodrigo, piantandosi in piedi nel mezzo
della sala. Il suono delle parole era tale; ma il modo con cui erano proferite,
voleva dir chiaramente: bada a chi sei davanti, pesa le parole, e sbrigati.”
Don Rodrigo non può accettare che un frate venga nella sua casa ad
insegnare come comportarsi da buon cristiano, timorato di Dio. In realtà è
superstizioso e quando fra Cristoforo per le staffe accusandolo apertamente
ed inizia una minacciosa profezia, “ho compassione di questa casa: la maledizione le sta sopra sospesa. E in quanto a voi sentite bene quel ch’io vi prometto. Verrà un giorno…’
Don Rodrigo afferra il braccio puntato verso di lui e con parole villane gli
intima di lasciare immediatamente il castello.
“Escimi di tra i piedi, villano temerario, poltrone incappucciato”
FRIAR (Fra) CRISTOFORO AND DON RODRIGO
Father Cristoforo became aware of Don Rodrigo’s threats and decides to face him in his castle.
Welcomed during a banquet, he has a private conversation with the village landowner, but that soon takes on a harsh tone.
“- In what can I obey her? said Don Rodrigo, planting himself on his feet in the middle of the room. The sound of the words was such; but the way they were spoken, he wanted to say clearly: watch whom you are in front of , weigh your words, and hurry. “
In reality it is superstitious and when Fra Cristoforo loses his temper openly accusing him and begins a threatening prophecy,
“I have compassion for this house: the curse hangs over it …
and as for you, feel well what I promise you. There will come a day … “
Don Rodrigo grabs the arm pointed towards him and with rude words orders him to leave the castle immediately.
“Get out of my way, reckless villain, hooded lazy man”
FRA CRISTOFORO UND DON RODRIGO
Fra Cristoforo wird auf Don Rodrigos Drohungen aufmerksam und beschließt, sich ihm in seinem Schloss zu stellen.
Bei einem Bankett begrüßt, führt er ein privates Gespräch mit dem Knappen, das jedoch bald einen harschen Ton annimmt.
„- Worin kann ich ihr gehorchen? sagte Don Rodrigo und stellte sich mitten im Zimmer auf. Der Klang der Worte war so; aber die Art, wie sie gesprochen wurden, bedeutete klar: Pass auf, wer du vor dir bist, wäge deine Worte ab und beeile dich.“
In Wirklichkeit ist es abergläubisch und als Fra Cristoforo die Beherrschung verliert, ihn offen beschuldigt und eine drohende Prophezeiung beginnt,
“Ich habe Mitleid mit diesem Haus: Der Fluch hängt darüber …
und was Sie betrifft, fühlen Sie sich wohl, was ich Ihnen verspreche. Es wird ein Tag kommen … ”
Don Rodrigo ergreift den auf ihn gerichteten Arm und befiehlt ihm mit groben Worten, das Schloss sofort zu verlassen.
“Geh mir aus dem Weg, rücksichtsloser Bösewicht, faul mit Kapuze .”

Le père Cristoforo a été informé des menaces de Don Rodrigo et décide de l’affronter dans son château.
Reçu pendant un banquet, il a un entretien privé avec le petit seigneur, ce qui dégénère très vite.
« En quoi puis-je vous obéir ? – dit Don Rodrigo en se dressant au milieu de la pièce. Le son de ses paroles était tel : mais la façon de les proférer voulait clairement dire : « Fait attention à qui est devant toi, prends garde à tes mots, et dépêche-toi ».
En réalité il est superstitieux mais quand Fra Cristoforo perd son calme en l’accusant ouvertement et commence à déclamer une prophétie menaçante :
« J’ai pitié de cette maison : la malédiction qui pèse sur elle….et en ce qui vous concerne , écoutez bien ce que je vous promets…. Verra le jour où…. »
Don Rodrigo saisit le bras pointé vers lui et avec des vilains mots somme à Fra Cristoforo de quitter promptement le château.
« Dégage de là, vilain téméraire, paresseux emmitouflé …. »
“Lucia è sicura da voi: ve lo dico io povero frate; e in quanto a voi, sentite bene quel ch’io vi prometto. Verrà un giorno… Don Rodrigo era allora rimasto tra la rabbia e la maraviglia, attonito, non trovando parole; ma, quando sentì intonare una predizione, s’aggiunse alla rabbia un lontano e misterioso spavento. Afferrò rapidamente per aria quella mano minacciosa, e, alzando la voce, per troncar quella dell’infausto profeta, gridò: – escimi di tra’ piedi, villano temerario, poltrone incappucciato.”
